Community Carol Service on the Cobbles!

Together at Christmas

This week marked the beginning of a very special series of gatherings across the country, each designed to shine a light on the people who help weave our communities together. The initiative, supported by Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales, is all about celebrating kindness, connection, and the everyday contributions that make society feel more like family.

Thousands will take part in these Together at Christmas events, each one reflecting the unique character of its local area while blending timeless traditions with modern touches.

In Manchester, I had the chance to photograph one of the most memorable evenings at the Coronation Street Visitor Centre at ITV Studios where the Greater Manchester Lieutenancy welcomed more than a hundred guests from the local community, joined by familiar faces from the Coronation Street cast, Sally Dynevor, Elle Mulvaney, and Patti Clare.

The night which was hosted by Eamonn O’Neal, included dancing from the Sonaash Bollywood Dancers followed by carols and readings, filling the space with warmth and anticipation. The Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa Pipe Band later struck up and led the crowd down the famous cobbles. Cameras clicked, voices rose, and the finale unfolded outside The Rovers Return with a surprise visit from Father Christmas.

From behind the lens, what struck me most wasn’t just the spectacle, but the expressions: neighbours standing shoulder to shoulder, cast members mingling with fans, and the shared joy of song echoing through the set. It was a reminder that community isn’t just about place,it’s about people, and the stories we create together.
